Cuba April 2016
Foto by Julia Lopez
I welcome you back and myself back to my neglected blog! Wow, last post was a year ago. 2017...the year of the Rooster. What do Tigers have to be mindful of in 2017?
The Chinese Zodiac say: Tigers had bad luck in 2016 which is the year of the Monkey. Generally, you will have average luck in 2017 and you will have neither a major breakthrough nor big disaster. Instead, you will be blessed by three auspicious stars, namely Guoyin, Yuede and Tianxi. They will enable you to make a strong push in work and love. However, you need to work and live with an honest and down-to-earth attitude rather than acting on impulse for the sake of neighborhood harmony, family stability, smooth work and stable luck in 2017.
Sounds like something to work towards! I'll start by catching up on my photo essays... CUBA 2016.

Illuminate Me-with Las Gallas 2012
The Most Himself Installation, Poetry, Fotos by Julia Lopez
He was the most himself in the waters.
He was flung into the air.
He laughed, joyous sound that comes
when you are lifted so high
your hairs are on end,
just a hint of danger.
He was lifted more than humanly possible,
floating through space tasting freedom.
Freedom, granted by the release
of his enslaved mother’s desperate arms.
No place to land but into the deep dark waters
that cleansed and engulfed his body full of life.
His mouth was still open
when it made contact with the strange ocean.
It took him, acknowledged the sacrifice.
He took up the cross floating,
accepting his fate took up the cross, ferocious and flailing
life before his eyes
he took it up.
He was the most himself in the waters
The passage between patria
and this land, this land of accents
twisted tense stiff lips
moving pushing, spitting out words
he does not understand.
The passage between patria
and this land
lost at sea.

It took a while for the families to remember me. Their great, great, great, great, great grand daughter. 500 years is a long time to wait.
The loose dirt and dust between my toes has settled into my heels. I like to drag my feet, feel the earth. I stop by every door to say hello or to accept an offering of a cool drink. The families have been waiting so long and become impatient with me. "The girl doesn't know how to walk a straight line!" I look up at the sleeping stars hiding behind the sun, write it down, fingers all twisted, and I lose my way. They try to help me. Throw flowers at my feet to open the path but I can only follow the crumbs. I can be such a pest.
